We're looking for
Clemenger is an agency built on the different points of view, quirks and abilities of our people. We're looking for the next generation of unique characters to join our graduate program that's not just for graduates.
What we want
We're looking for exceptions to the rule.
It doesn't matter if you've been to university, what you've studied, or the path you've taken. Every person brings a unique skill set to the table.
We are looking for unique characters for this year's intake. Whether you are a graduate or not, we want creative minds with a curiosity to push boundaries. Those who are ready to think differently in order to make the new normal.
The exceptions graduate program is a paid 12-month immersive where successful "Exceptions" will gain first-hand experience in account service, planning, production and creative, via training rotations for the first 6 weeks. Thereafter you will be selected for an internship position for the rest of the year in a dedicated department.
The recruitment process is in two stages - the first is answering our questions to get to know you. This stage is open until 6pm, Monday 11th of November 2019.
You will receive the invite by Friday 15th of November 2019 to come to either Melbourne or Sydney (based on your indicated preference) for the group task assessment on Monday 25th of November 2019.
Please note, you will need to have the right to work in Australia to participate in the exceptions graduate program.
Rafa is an Australian-born Bangladeshi, and passionate about equality, diversity and allowing people to be themselves. Her love of culture brings life to the agency and means you'll often find her reading, listening to podcasts or stuffing her face at delicious restaurants.
Hilary is a multi-award winning Creative Director, working on some of the agency's biggest clients. If that wasn't ambitious enough she's a full time mum and author. Yeah, we don't know how she does it either.
Ideas are what keeps the business fresh, no matter the shape. If there's one quality every employee has, it's the want to make every idea shine as bright as it can. There's a reason why our motto is, Creativity is always the answer.
Clemenger holds itself to a high quality of work. The best way to achieve this standard is through collaboration, talent and patience. Qualities we're looking for in each candidate.
In its fourth year, the Exceptions program is looking for a bunch of fresh new faces. At Clemenger we believe variety of opinion brings out the best work, something the Exceptions are known to deliver.
Clare is the Executive Assistant to James McGrath and our Creative Leaders. She thrives on the challenges of managing multiple diaries, award submissions, sourcing unique venues and props, and supporting the day-to-day logistics of the Creative department. But most importantly, she's the mastermind behind Clemenger's culture, lighting up every room she enters.
Lisa is one of our most determined producers. In a previous life she was an Olympic Gymnast. Now, she funnels that will-power into her work. Often making the impossible possible and bringing our vision to life on the screen.
Alisa is a multitalented designer who's skills can't be contained into one category. Whether it be interactive, digital, typography or graphic, Alisa's want to make everything beautiful is represented in every field. There's a reason why we wanted her to design the Clemenger characters.
Interactive Executive Producer
Sabrina is our tech wiz - she loves discovering new technologies and sharing them with others. Her monthly innovation sessions help keep the agency in the loop. And in case we don't understand, she speaks 3 languages to help explain.
Starting his career as a game designer, Damian's love for creativity landed him in Advertising. Now, his job involves attacking problems from hundreds of different ways and no two days are ever the same.
Arriving with our first wave of exceptions and hailing all the way from rural South Australia, Matilda takes inspiration from her dad's twitter, her local sandwich artist and Japanese Minimalism then combines it all creatively to arrive at unique insights that make clients confident and spark our imaginations.
Besides being an amazing technologist and being able to speak fluently in two languages (not counting coding), Sylvain is also an accomplished 3D animator. He's the guy you go to with any question.
Liv is an Art Director in our Interactive team. She's fascinated by colours, shapes, patterns and spaces and is constantly absorbing stimulus from the world around her. Liv's talent is being able to pull all this inspiration into a single unique idea.
Originally studying Neuroscience, Jules never thought she'd end up in Advertising. The youngest planner to join Clems Melbourne, she now spends her days with the rest of our brainy bunch in planning. Coming up with clever insights to make our work bullet proof.
Jess follows through her words with action, taking the pressures of daily life head-on and helping drive the needs of our agency, clients and internal teams towards success. Driven and curious, you can find her lost in thought wondering how all the little decisions we make add up to big changes in the world around us.

Questions and answers
need to know
What's account service?
These guys are responsible for the client and oversee the whole creative process from taking a brief to delivery of the finished project, working closely with all of the specialist departments in the agency and talking with the clients every day.
When would I start and what will I earn?
It's a year long paid program, with the first 6 weeks being training rotations, thereafter you will be placed in a department on an internship basis for the rest of the year. You will receive about $3,300 a month before tax.
The planning department is responsible for account strategy – from top level business strategy of a client to the more specific strategy for a given marketing campaign. They work closely with the client and account service to define the problem and develop the brief, and then with creatives to ensure their ideas are in the right space.
What do you mean by agency style group task?
We will invite a number of you along to the same location, divide you into several groups and brief you all on an advertising task, such as the creation of a campaign idea. We'll then observe how you work as a group throughout the whole process, and how you present your final thinking at the end of the day.
These guys are responsible for taking the approved idea and turning it into a real thing, whether that's a film, an app, an event, a poster, a website, or anything else. They work closely with the creatives to ensure their vision is brought to reality, and account service to ensure client objectives are met.
What happens at the end of the programme?
If you've had a good year then we'll certainly want to keep you and will offer you a permanent position. That's why the program exists and in previous years most graduates have been offered a job. Worst case scenario you'll leave with a year's amazing experience at the most successful agency in Australia.
What would you be doing?
You'll spend the first 6 weeks rotating around the key departments in the agency. The remainder of the year will be spent in one of these departments, chosen based on an evaluation of your skills and performance in the rotation. You'll be supporting the teams in the delivery of real work for clients, learning the ropes and taking on more responsibility as time progresses.
Are there any minimum criteria for application?
You don't need to have any specific academic qualifications. In this instance we're more interested in how you think, how you behave and the kind of person you are. We're looking for people that will thrive in a fast paced agency environment, so enthusiasm, dedication and good communication are a must. But beyond that, it's up to you.
Could I get a job as a creative?
Unfortunately not, that's not what this program is about.
How will you judge my question answers?
This is always going to be a bit subjective, but we want to get a feeling for who you are, how you think, how you've got where you are, and how you might fit in the agency.
Can I apply from abroad?
You need to have the legal right to work in Australia. If you have that, then you can apply from anywhere you like.
